If you're in an area where you can make loud, horrible noise for two minutes, crank your speakers and watch this amazing video.

Wooden Mirrors
Here's some links to some YouTube videos showing how these wooden mirrors work, just to prove I'm not completely crazy.
This video describes the whole thing in detail:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZysu9QcceM
But this is the cooler design in my opinion. It doesn't show it very well, and I can't find a better video, but this design uses wooden dowels cut on an angle that cast the light rather than a flat piece.

My beach house's bookshelf
So this past week I was on vacation in Charleston, South Carolina. We rented a beach house on the Isle of Palms, which was fully furnished with everything you could ever need/want.
Here's the bookshelf. Feel free to judge, or not judge.

PRESENTS FOR EVERYONE :)
I sent out an e-mail to everyone, if you did not receive it, here it is
Hi class friends!!!!!
I hope final critiques are going well. Again, I am so sorry I can not be there to see everyone else's projects, but I have heard from a classmate Tuesday was really cool.
I have presents for everyone. They will be in a bag marked "Kris's beach presents for Intermedia II class" or something to those lines. I will try and put them in the class room this weekend. If I can not get into the classroom, they will be outside Katie's studio.
I hope everyone is doing great. Finish out the year strong!!!!!
Thanks
-Kris

Random Tidbits
I forgot to mention that on Kyla Medina's website, the thumbnails are blank (because they are animated .GIF files). Click through to watch the whole series.
Also, during Harry's critique, I noticed that on his website the images loaded very slowly. Are you making sure to use 72 ppi? That's the accepted image quality for the web, and it ensures that everything loads as quickly as the website itself. Also, depending on what server you're using, it helps use as little space as possible. If you have any questions ask me or any of the designers, I'm sure they'll know too!

Peter Paisley in 3D!

My friend Kyla Medina took a "3D" picture of Peter Paisley and it's on her website. It's pretty cool. This is just a screen capture, but on the website it moves. Check it out!

In Marina Abromovic's new exhibit The Artist is Present at the MoMA, Marina sits at a table. Viewers sit on the other side and she silently stares and makes them cry. The MoMA adds an additional level of interactivity by streaming video of the exhibit on the web during museum hours. COOL

Today's Photos
To whom it may concern,
The photos I took today have been edited and converted into jpegs. They are all ready to go. Unfortunately the Intermedia server won't let me drop them in Katie's public folder. If it can't be resolved within a day or so, I'll just post them to facebook for everybody (unless anyone has any objections). If all else fails, I'll bring them on a jumpdrive to class on tuesday.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Seven Days of Silence
The objective: Maintain a vow of silence; spend an entire week (Wednesday April 28, 2010 to Wednesday May 5, 2010) without speaking.
So I will be spending a full seven days without speaking while trying to live my life as normally as possible. I will still go to class, grocery shop, eat pizza and hang out with friends (and everything else I do normally), only without speaking. I will carry a small dry-erase board with me for written communication but I will attempt to refrain from using it too much.
Exceptions:
(and yes, these are the ONLY exceptions)
1. Any emergency situation - I don’t think I really need to explain this one but I will speak during an emergency. Fire, car crash, zombie attack and alien invasions are examples of emergencies.
2. Martial Arts - I practice Taekwon Do and Hapkido twice a week. In this setting it would be both extremely disrespectful and irresponsible to completely refrain from speaking. I will however limit my speech to only what is necessary.
3. The Department of Education - I’ve been told by the kind people who processed my FAFSA for next year that there is some sort of an issue with my financial aid application and that I should be expecting a call from the Department of Education. This is no laughing matter, I need financial aid to continue at the university next year. If they call, I will speak on the phone.
4. Extreme Family Business: My family has been informed and has promised not to call my cell phone unless something of real importance comes up. If they do call (and it actually is something serious), I will allow myself to speak.
Record:
I will be keeping record of this project mostly via online blog. I will post at least once a day (probably at night) to recount the general experience of the day, any difficulties I had or any times I had a slip up and accidentally spoke.
The blog can be found here: http://www.neilsbigolvowofsilence.blogspot.com
I will also keep a camcorder with me Thursday and Tuesday (the days I have class) to attempt to tape some interaction with people.

Project?
EVERYONE/ANYONE
I talked to a few people outside of class about this project that's due next week...and it didn't seem like anyone knew what it was about. Is it completely open ended? I was under the impression that we just needed to push ourselves in a way that we haven't pushed ourselves before. Could someone clear this up for me? Anyone?
I just want sure I am not completely missing something I should touch on. I looked through the blog completely and I still don't know...thanks guys.

Dove Evolution
I stumbled upon this a little while back. Besides being interesting I think it deffinetly relates to mediated reality.
